Girls fire in the cold

13/08/2008 10:26:00 AM
IN bitterly cold conditions, with occasional snow flurries, the STFA U18 girls produced some scintillating football to continue their good form of recent weeks.

The team travelled to Canberra on Sunday for their last away game of the regular season and settled quickly to produce a superb goal inside four minutes.

Caitlin Nye and Lizzie Gorman dissected the ANU defence down the left flank with a series of deft passes. Gorman proceeded to beat two defenders before cutting the ball back across goal for Sam Painter to strike into the net.

This goal set the tone for the rest of the game with the STFA side turning on a display of quality football that a valiant ANU could not match.

Six minutes later Painter was in again. Gorman was again the provider, slipping the ball between two ANU defenders, after a skilful build up with Shayna Rowcliff, allowing Painter to slide the ball past the ANU keeper.
