East snatch come from behind win

11/08/2008 10:37:00 AM
WORKERS East were crowned 2008 Association Cup champions after a thrilling come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Goulburn Workers at Crookwell last Sunday.

Despite East sitting on top of the regular competition table and Workers towards the bottom there was little between the two sides in one of the toughest finals in years.

Workers threatened to win their second Cup final in a row after shooting out to a 3-1 lead courtesy of a first-half hat-trick from striker Arg Stoevelaar. But the skill and fitness of East proved the difference.

Workers were prepared for an early onslaught from East and within the first five minutes East had two close chances before striker Damien MacAlister finished a well-worked move.
