TRIBUTES, some from as far away as New Zealand, are pouring in following the passing on Friday of one of the city's greatest fashion doyennes, Phyllis Rudd.
She was a lady who not only shaped the way generations of girls and women dressed, but one who attracted the attention of big business, particularly the way she conducted some of this city's more-prestigious fashion parades.
"She was always elegant, cheerful and eager to help her customers," remembered Glad Cavanough, the sister of Phyllis' husband, Allan, who accompanied Phyllis on many of her Sydney fashion buying trips.
A glamorous, young Phyllis started her commercial career at Edgars' Jewellers, moving to J Farren Price watch bar in Rogers department store in 1957, and to Rogers teenage and junior miss fashion department four years later.
