GOULBURN league product Todd Carney's playing career in this country has been dealt a severe blow after he was sacked yesterday by the Canberra Raiders.
The Raiders board met with Carney and manager David Riolo to discuss a number of matters relating to his off-field behaviour before coming to the decision to terminate his contract.
"The decision was made that he had plenty of chances over his time with the club, and with his behavioural issues, the board decided that they had had enough and that's what they came up with," Raiders CEO Don Furner said.
According to a report in the Canberra Times, the NRL has also followed through with their threat to deregister the wayward playmaker, with chief executive David Gallop saying no contract with Carney's name on it would be registered for the 2009 season.
