'Innocent' drug mule sent to jail

13/06/2008 3:53:00 PM
A MAN who claimed he was only an innocent drug mule has been convicted and sent to jail for 15 months after he was caught taking cannabis to Sydney with a street value of $4000.

Mathew Scott Alderton, 29, of Elms St, Goulburn pleaded guilty to supplying a prohibited drug when he appeared by audio-visual link from Goulburn jail in Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday.

Police caught Alderton with 448.78g of cannabis leaf in a car on the Hume Highway on May 8. Police estimated the street value of the drug at $4000.

Alderton's solicitor said his client's role was only that of a courier not a supplier. He said Alderton he had been offered $200 to deliver the drugs to Sydney.
