Golf Club president Morris Owen: Gambling drop hits club

6/10/2008 9:17:00 AM
A LOCAL club has registered a loss of nearly $100,000 over the past financial year, mostly attributed to a downturn in poker machine revenue.

Goulburn Golf Club president Morris Owen was worried about the loss of over $93,000 and said members were also considering a merger with the Railway Bowling Club. At the same time he acknowledged any amalgamation could be several years away.

"It's the first loss the club has recorded in five years, which is very disappointing," Mr Owen said.

"It's a very hard industry, the club industry. Small clubs like the golf club are struggling all across the State."
