Former parish executive says interim order made

AN old school destined for demolition and described as having no historical value, once had an interim conservation order placed on the building, according to a local woman.

Long-time Ss Peter and Paul's Cathedral parishioner and former church finance committee member, Pat Bourke, well remembers the discussions about 91 Bourke St, a 1938 technical school, earlier this decade.

At that time, in 2000, parish priest Fr Laurie Blake wanted to demolish the structure to make way for a retirement village and generate income for Ss Peter and Paul's Cathedral's restoration.

"Goulburn City Council advised the parish it could not be demolished because it had a special type of steel framed windows in it. They put an interim conservation order on the building," Mrs Bourke said.
