Alcohol's big scourge: Hospital bears brunt of problem

GOULBURN Mulwaree's alcohol intake is creating a financial drain on the area's health resources, with more 150 liquor-related hospitalisations recorded each year.

According to the NSW chief medical officer's report, over 150 people are documented as being hospitalised per annum as a result of alcohol consumption in the Goulburn Mulwaree area.

This number is more than four times that in Upper Lachlan Shire and nearly five times the total in neighbouring Palerang.

Goulburn Mulwaree is also in the top nine per cent of NSW local government areas for alcohol induced offensive behaviour, with 133 recorded incidents throughout one year.
