PARENTS can have greater peace of mind, with a local primary school soon to be protected by a security fence.

Wollondilly Public School will be one of 200 schools to have a security fence installed by the Department of Education and Training (DET) over the next four years.

The DET is spending $180,000 to erect Wollondilly Public School's fence and $39 million on security fences statewide.

A DET spokesperson said the fence currently being erected would cover the boundary of the school and the neighbouring Crescent School, totalling 850 metres.
